Establish a GMEC:
The GMEC serves as the governing body responsible for overseeing the overall management and quality of the GME program. It is crucial to establish a GMEC committee composed of key stakeholders, including program directors, faculty representatives, institutional leadership, and resident representatives. The committee should have a diverse range of expertise and a shared commitment to advancing medical education.
Define Roles and Responsibilities:
Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the GMEC members. This includes delineating the duties of the GMEC chairperson, program directors, program coordinators, and other stakeholders involved in the GME process. Each member should have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and be aligned with the goals and objectives of the GME program.
Develop Policies and Procedures:
Establish a comprehensive set of policies and procedures that govern all aspects of the GME program. This includes policies related to resident selection, evaluation, promotion, duty hours, wellness, academic support, and professional conduct. These policies should be consistent with the requirements of accrediting bodies such as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Create Infrastructure for Documentation and Communication:
Implement a centralized system for documenting and managing GME-related information.
Feasibility Assessments are applied to help determine how GME can be integrated into the hospitals and institutional resources and vision for the future.
These valuations can evaluate the opportunity for brand-new GME development at an existing site, or during a Feasibility Assessment, we collaborate with your hospital’s GME Steering Committee to form recommendations regarding potential programs, respective program sizes, sponsorships, operational considerations, required faculty commitments, identify missing resources and the financial outlook of the recommended programs.
At the close of a Feasibility Assessment, we provide you with all the necessary information to feel confident in your ability to make future decisions regarding GME.
We help the DIO and governing body to define the Resident/Fellow Contract.
We assist with the maintenance of the GMEC meetings and minutes, recording the GMEC responsibilities and roles.
